Hamonic may start skating on Monday

Hamonic was placed on injured reserve Friday to make roster room for Kevin Poulin's recall, but that was a paper transaction. He still could be back by next weekend if all goes well and he quickly gets accustomed to his new full-face shield.

"It's a surprise [Hamonic has been out so long], but the severity of it was bad," Capuano said. "It's best he takes this time to make sure he's good to go."

Saturday night marked the fourth time in the seven games Hamonic has missed that the Islanders allowed at least three goals.

Poulin already had received a couple of emergency call-ups from Bridgeport this season, and both those times, Sound Tigers coach Brent Thompson informed Poulin over the phone to grab his gear and drive to Long Island.

But on Friday, Thompson had a different request.

"He told me I needed to come to the rink; there was something he had to tell me," Poulin said Saturday morning. "I was a little worried. But I got to the rink and he told me I was coming up, so it turned out fine."
