Avery doubtful for weekend; more notes, numbers
The knee injury to agitator Sean Avery, who has 11 goals and 20 assists in 69 games, appears to have ended his regular season. Coach John Tortorella said it was “doubtful” that the left wing could play this weekend.
Avery, who had three goals and three assists in six games before he was injured in the 3-2 overtime loss to the Leafs in Toronto on March 27, received a second treatment of platelet-rich plasma therapy on Tuesday in an effort to speed the healing. His right knee was injured as he battled for position with defenseman Luke Schenn.
After tonight's game, Avery said it was too soon to tell whether the second treatment had any effect. It is unclear when Avery could play if the Rangers make the post-season.
