Greetings from Greenburgh....

The morning begins with six sets of three cross-ice sprints and then "Herbies", sprints in lanes from the goal line, a turn and back to the far blue line....First group of 16 was on ice for 40 minutes.

Last night's training ended with a two-mile run on the track at nearby Hackley school....Dane Byers finished in 11:32, one the fastest times....Byers, a physical left wing beginning his fifth year in the organization, said his goal is to make the coaches notice him in the drill and exhibition games...."I know the guys they've brought in, I watch the news like you guys," Byers said. "But if they think you're ready, they'll give you an opportunity."

Sights and sounds: Alexei Semenov is wearing a Rangers 2009 Training Camp t-shirt... Dylan McIlrath seemed to breeze through the testing...Kris Newbury struggled again and Marc Staal, whose contract impasse stopped him from joining the informal group workouts, also seemed a tad behind...Goaltenders already gone for the day, having worked starting at 8:15 with assistant coach Benoit Allaire...Steve Eminger was on the bike loosening up as the second of four groups prepares for the sprints.... Garnet Exelby said he has been visiting Manhattan about once a month to work out with a trainer in midtown....

             Update...

Down to the fourth group, and Marian Gaborik (sore back), who rested yesterday, will skate in the conditioning drills shortly...In the third group, Sean Avery and Ruslan Fedotenko showed no ill effects...Derek Boogaard, who has dropped about 20 pounds, said this camp was far different than the Wild. "I wouldn't say 180 degrees, but...."
