Casey Wellman shipped to Panthers for draft pick

Casey Wellman, a center/right wing who was acquired from Minnesota along with a 2013 seventh round draft pick last February in exhange for Erik Christensen, has been traded to the Panthers for a fifth rounder in the 2014 draft.
Wellman, 24, was 9-13-22 in 31 games and 4-5-9 in nine playoff games for the Connecticut Whale. He was a restricted free agent, with last year's two-way contract paying him $67,500 in the minor-leagues and $850,000 in the NHL.
