Former Blue Jackets D Aaron Johnson inks deal with NYR
In another on-the-perimeter transaction, the Rangers signed Aaron Johnson, 30, a free-agent defenseman who played for the Bruins and AHL Providence last season, in their second deal of the day.
Johnson received a one-year deal worth $600,000.
So since last Sunday, the Rangers have added three defensemen: Justin Falk, an RFA, Danny Syvret and Johnson.
Johnson, a third-round draft pick of the Blue Jackets, played in Columbus with Rick Nash, and made stops on Long Island and Calgary, Chicago and Edmonton before Boston. In 291 NHL games, he has 17 goals and 62 points. He's not a bruiser, with just 200-plus penalty minutes, or a much-needed righty.
