Gaborik, Callahan fine; PP practice, Lundqvist on SI cover

Wish I could wax poetic, but hey...it's practice.

The Rangers spent much of today's session in Westchester working on the power play. Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik (fine, some sniffles, after the flu), Ryan Callahan (back after a day off for personal reasons), Michael Del Zotto and Derek Stepan were the first unit. Brandon Dubinsky, Brian Boyle, Aterm Anisimov, Dan Girardi and Anton Stralman were the second.

I'll have more on Marian Gaborik in a while, but let's just say he seems confident, and atrribute that coach John Tortorella sees as a big difference from last year's playoffs, when the winger had a goal and assist in the five-game loss to the Capitals.

We're still waiting on news about the possible signing of BC's Chris Kreider to an entry-level contract. They're talking, and we hear there's an on-campus rally/celebration of the team's NCAA championship at 4 p.m.  Again, more on that if/when it happens today, tomorrow, whenever.

Players such as Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin and Brian Boyle discussed the transition from college to the next levels with the media contingent after practice. The consensus: Tough jump.

Boyle also spoke about how he was mad at Boomer Esiason after his WFAN radio spot in the morning because "he was getting on me for something three games ago... "At least Carton had my back...I'm coming for ya, Boom-ah," Boyle said in his distinctive Boston accent.

Lundqvist said he was "honored" by the SI cover, which is distributed in the Eastern U.S. "The West has Bubba," said Lundqvist, referring to the Masters champ.  Nonetheless, it's the first Ranger on the mag's front since thje issue of April 26, 1999, when Wayne Gretzky retired.

Tomorrow's practice is here at 11, then the game-day practices are at the Garden on Thursday and Saturday.
