J.T. Miller, who was sent down on Dec. 9, was recalled by the Rangers on Thursday before the holiday freeze deadline. He has seven goals and two assists in eight AHL games.

Dylan McIlrath played one game, his NHL debut against Columbus, and had  8:55 on ice, with one fight. The Rangers will now have six defensemen, including Justin Falk, for the Islanders game Friday. Does this mean Marc Staal (concussion) will be back this weekend? Doubtful.

Arron Asham, 35, played less than five minutes against the Penguins in the 4-3 shootout loss.
