                The evening began with news that forward Ales Kotalik, in the first season of a three-year, $9-miilon deal, did not accompany the team here from Phoenix and that a trade was coming. But a Rangers spokesman said before the game that complications arose in the tentative deal and Kotalik was sent to New York as negotiations continued. Kotalik, 31, who had been a healthy scratch for eight of the last nine games, had gone public with his displeasure several weeks ago, although both he and his agent denied that they had sought a trade.
