Lundqvist better but sidelined; Talbot starts in Philadelphia

Henrik Lundqvist will be in Philadelphia with the team tonight and tomorrow, but not in a Rangers uniform. 

As reported this morning from practice, the team's No. 1 goaltender is dealing with an undisclosed injury, and is listed as day to day.  Rookie Cam Talbot will make his NHL debut in goal against the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday. Jason Missaien will serve as backup, coach Alain Vigneault said. Vigneault has downplayed the severity of the problem, noting that if tomorrow's game was during the playoffs, Lundqvist would "probably" play. He iniitally said he had been unaware how long the injury was bothering Lundqvist. 

Today he said Lundqvist consulted with doctors on Sunday after Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Devils, and they found "some irritation". The decision was made to begin treatment.

Lundqvist, who apparently did not disclose his discomfort, has not been made available to discuss the nature of the problem with the media, but  tweeted this afternoon:

"Been dealing with it for 2 weeks, now was a good time to try and get back to 100%...Last few days it's been getting better with treatment and exercise."

It is unclear whether Lundqvist, who has been shaky at times through the first seven games, will be healed enough to play---or back up Talbot--- against the Red Wings in Detroit on Saturday.  The Rangers will have a morning skate in Philadelphia tomorrow and perhaps practice on the road Friday.  Stay tuned...
