Rangers' Matt Rempe needs procedure on broken thumb, goes on IR

Rangers forward Matt Rempe is going on injured reserve because of a lingering left thumb injury and will undergo a procedure, according to an NHL source.
Rempe has admitted being limited by the thumb, which was broken in a fight with San Jose’s Ryan Reaves on Oct. 23. Though he returned to action in mid-December, his effectiveness as a forechecker and a fighter was hampered, and coach Mike Sullivan held him out of the lineup for six games in mid-January before he returned Jan. 26 in Pittsburgh.
But Rempe hasn’t fought since he came back, and on the season he has just one goal and no assists, with 11 penalty minutes in 26 games.
