The defenseman is being placed on waivers at noon, as Newsday's Arthur Staple and others reported from training camp a few minutes ago...Hard to fathom that he will be claimed. But the Rangers have cleared $6.5 million in cap space...

According to the reporters there, GM Glen Sather said Redden "saw the writing on the wall," and said he will take a few days to make up his mind on whether to report to Hartford.

I mentioned in today's paper that the waiver period started today and that unless he miraculously returned to form, the 33-year-old's days were numbered....So, question is, is there a trade coming from the spare forwards for another legit D? Raised that possibility, too, although Rangers do like younger guys like Ryan McDonagh, Pavel Valentenko...

                   Stay tuned...
