Prospects fall 4-3 to Canes in 2d OT; title gm Wed. 7 p.m.
Thought your favorite team would lose this in 1st OT, when Dylan McIlrath (minus-2) , who's had an average tourney so far, took a trip and Rangers had to foil 4 on 3 for two mins.
But Jason Missiaen (38 saves overall) stopped Ryan Murphy (a keeper for Canes) three times. Tim Erixon foremost, and Jon Audy-Marchessault, JT Miller, Ryan Bourque and Carl Hagelin, were the main defenders.
So it went to 3 on 3, and Christian Thomas (goal, assist), got pickpocketed by Justin Shugg, who scored on a breakaway. Shane McColgan, continuing a surprisingly successful tourney, also had a goal and assist. As for Erixon, I think he met expectations every game.
Plus: Liked Coach Ken Gernander's remarks, instructions to team in locker room during intermissions, and Gordie Clark's analysis in third.
Minus: Relentless promotion for Traverse City, a quaint, lakeside resort town. Hope it helped tourism, but.....
The TCity title game, Rangers (2-0-1) vs Sabres, is Wednesday at 7 p.m, televised by MSG.
