I wrote the other day that the Rangers were seeking defensive depth, and at the last-minute today, landed some.

In their second trade of deadline day, the Rangers acquired Raphael Diaz, 28, a Swiss-born defenseman, from Vancouver, for a fifth-round draft pick in 2015.

The 5-11, 200-lb Diaz, who also played 46 games for Montreal this season, is 1-12-13 in 52 games, and is a unrestricted free agent in July.  He is earning $1.2 million.

In 2011-12 and 2012-13 in Montreal, Diaz, who was born in Switzerland, was 4-26-30.

That gives the Rangers eight defensemen, but with rosters expanding today, it does not necessarily mean that Justin Falk would be assigned to Hartford.

Also, J.T. Miller has apparently been returned to Hartford, which apparently means that Derek Dorsett plays tonight and that it is a good possibility that Mats Zuccarello returns Friday in Carolina.
