Rangers new captain to be named today

Along with two alternates. My sense is that Ryan Callahan, who wore an "A" and acted as de facto captain when Chris Drury missed most of last season,  will be awarded the "C", and that Marc Staal will keep his "A".  Think veteran Brad Richards will be given the other "A".  The Rangers have had 25 captains; Drury, who retired this summer, served since 2008.

Will have a report later when names are confirmed by team. Stick here and at twitter.com/stevezipay for news and updates from today's informal workout at the MSG Training Center in Westchester.

No game at Traverse City today. Rangers prospects, 2-0 after the 6-2 defeat of Dallas last night, face Carolina (0-2) Tuesday at 3 p.m., televised by MSG.  A win puts them into the championship game on Wednesday. The Rangers squad won the tourney in 2007.
