Chris Kreider, who played 15:39 and scored on his only shot:

“If I get complacent, next thing you know, I’m minus -2 and giving Ovechkin a one-timer in the slot. I have got to stay extremely focused. That’s pro hockey right?

***

Richards:

“It’s good to come off an emotional high. That team was waiting and rested…we kept the energy level up in the third and got it done.”

“It’s a total different game with the pressure they bring compared to Washington, so we had to get a handle on that, get a feel for it.”

“It’s going to be a tight series, it will probably be a lot different the next game.”

***

Girardi on his goal: “I saw him (Kreider) coming up the wall, I was delaying, and saw no one go to the point and I stepped into it, got it through.”  (Brodeur by the way, said he was not interfered with.)

***

Lundqvist on McDonagh’s breakups on the two Devils breakaways: “It looked like he was pretty far behind but he would catch up pretty fast and made a great play…he’s really quick to recover if something happens.”

More Lundqvist: “I expect it to be a big war out there for I don’t know how many games.”

***

Brian Boyle: “Artie’s been good, Feds has been really good, I was slowing them down a little bit until the third.”
