Coach John Tortorella said that he doesn't want to risk playing Wojtek Wolski (sore ribs) for "five shifts" tomorrow before having to sit against the Kings, and so Kris Newbury is being recalled from Connecticut.

Torts said Newbury was one of two candidates (he refused to identify the second) recommended by the Whale coaches, and that he could play on the wing as well as center. The gritty Newbury has played eight games for the Rangers this season, with one assist and 35 penalty minutes.

D Steve Eminger, with whom Tortorella had a one-on-one chat near the end of practice, said the coach told him not to lose confidence.

Mats Zuccarello, who has been practicing at the point, feels more comfortable there, said Tortorella, and will repalce Wolski on the first PP unit.

Ruslan Fedotenko (apprendectomy) skated earlier today and was working out afterward. My guess is that he might skate with the team next week, probably with a non-contact jersey.

More in a bit....
