Is Daniel Hudson a bust?

It's way too early to label someone a bust. When it comes to Diamondbacks righthander Daniel Hudson, I would buy low right now. Hudson had a great second half after being acquired from the White Sox and was getting a lot of buzz in the preseason.

After an 0-4 start with a 5.92 ERA, many will give up on him and believe last year was a fluke. That's not the case. The biggest problem for Hudson has been getting out of the first inning and control. He has walked 12 in 24 1/3 innings. Throughout his minor league career, his walk rates have been good so chalk this up to a very small sample.

The velocity is very good and he's averaging more than one strikeout per inning with a 9.62 K/9. A strand rate of 53 percent is very unlucky. The average strand rate is 72 percent. A Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) ERA of 3.58 indicates Hudson is suffering from some bad luck, too. Now is the time to acquire him at a discount.
