Jake Peavy dominates in second start
Some people may have held Jake Peavy back in his second start to see how he peforms first. It's certainly made sense, but Peavy showed he's ready to be inserted back in the lineup and picked up off the waiver wire if he's available.
Peavy threw a three-hit shutout, walked none, and struck out eight in a 1-0 win over the Indians. The Indians came into the game with the best average in the American League and lead the league in runs scored. They scored 19 runs on Monday.
In his first start he pitched six innings, allowed seven hits, four earned runs, walked none, and struck out four against the Angels.
The most impressive thing so far is the excellent control. He has a 12/0 K/BB ratio in 15 innings. There's always the risk for injury, but there's also the upside to be one of the top pitchers in the American League.
Peavy had the latissimus dorsi muscle reattached in July of last year after it tore from the back of his shoulder and there was a lot of questions surrounding how he would bounce back. So far, he has looked good and the velocity is fine.
