Derek Jeter likes the Yankees' chance to repeat as World Series champions.

"As long as we stay healthy, I like the team that we have," the captain said after a pre-spring training workout in Tampa Wednesday.

One year after signing free- agent pitchers CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, the Yankees strengthened their rotation by acquiring Javier Vazquez from Atlanta.

"It all goes back to what I always say: You pitch, you have a chance to win," Jeter said. "It's a long season you've got to go through." The Yankees also added outfielders Curtis Granderson, Randy Winn and Marcus Thames, and designated hitter Nick Johnson.

Jeter took four weeks off after the postseason, then started indoor workouts. He began outdoor drills in mid-January.

"You celebrate for a short amount of time and then it's back to preparing for the next season," Jeter said. "Last year was a wonderful year, but last year is over with."

Jeter is entering the final season of a 10-year, $189-million contract. He plans to address that subject after the media arrives next week for spring training.
