Corielle Yarde scored 21 points, Brandy Gang added 18 and 13th-seeded Marist upset fourth-seeded Georgia, 76-70, Sunday in Tallahassee, Fla., in the first round of the women's NCAA Tournament.

The Red Foxes (26-7) shot 52.5 percent from the field and made 21 of 25 free throws. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions earned their 11th consecutive win. Georgia finished 22-9.

Marist's aggressive approach got Georgia's Meredith Mitchell into foul trouble. She fouled out with 7:01 left.

"Once we got her out of there, it was great," Gang said. "We had the momentum and went with it."

Gang's two foul shots gave the Red Foxes the lead for good at 63-62 with 5:56 left, and Yarde's three-point play made it 74-65 with 1:37 remaining.

Marist meets St. Bonaventure tomorrow night in Tallahassee, with the winner advancing to the round of 16 in the Raleigh Region.

St. Bonaventure 72, Florida Gulf Coast 65: Megan Van Tatenhove scored 18 points, Armelia Horton added 17 and fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure rallied to beat 12th-seeded Florida Gulf Coast in overtime, snapping the Eagles' 21-game winning streak. The Bonnies (30-3) overcame a 53-42 deficit in the final 61/2 minutes of regulation.

Notre Dame 74, Liberty 43: Notre Dame (31-3) took an 11-0 lead on its home floor and overpowered Liberty. The Irish (31-3) face California tomorrow at the Purcell Pavilion, where Notre Dame is 16-1 this season. Kayla McBride's 15 points led the Irish. Devon Brown scored 16 for Liberty (24-9).

California 84, Iowa 74: The Golden Bears (25-9) built a 16-point lead and hung on in South Bend, Ind. Freshman point guard Brittany Boyd had 15 points, eight assists and six steals for eighth-seeded California, which held a 41-29 rebounding edge over No. 9 Iowa (19-12).

FRESNO REGIONVanderbilt 60, Middle Tenn. 46: Jasmine Lister scored 19 points as seventh-seeded Vanderbilt defeated in-state rival Middle Tennessee in Nashville, Tenn. The teams hadn't met since 1992 despite being about 40 miles apart.

Vanderbilt (23-9) used a 20-5 run in the second half to pull away from Middle Tennessee (26-7).

Duke 82, Samford 47: Tricia Liston scored 22 points and second-seeded Duke (25-5) started strong and never looked back against 15th-seeded Samford.

Duke freshman Elizabeth Williams, the ACC defensive player of the year, had 11 points while playing despite a stress fracture in her lower right leg. She is Duke's top scorer and rebounder.
