The first big preseason injury has cost a player the season after Mike Leshoure was carted off the practice field today and tore his Achilles heel. Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he is out for the season.

The Lions second-round pick from Illinois was slated to split time in the backfield with Jahvid Best. Leshoure is a power back that stood to see some goal-line work and was shaping up to be a RB3.

For now, Best gets a boost and is a good RB2. Expect the Lions to bring in a veteran free agent. Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown are the current backups. Best showed how explosive he can be with five TDs in the first two weeks of his rookie season last year. In Week 2 against the Eagles, he rushed for 78 yards on 14 carries with two TDs and caught nine passes for 154 yards with a TD.

Then he dealt with turf toe on both feet that hampered him the rest of the season. Expect the Lions to be a pass-heavy offense and Best excels in the passing game, giving him a boost in PPR leagues.
