Trottier scores 500th goal
Bryan Trottier became the 15th player in NHL history to score 500 goals in the Islanders' 4-2 home loss against Calgary. Trottier, who beat Flames goalie Rick Wamsley midway through the second period, was taken by the Islanders as a second-round pick (and 22nd overall) in the 1974 NHL draft. The Val Marie, Saskatchewan, native played 15 seasons with the Islanders. The 1989-90 season was his last with the Islanders. He went to Pittsburgh as a free agent, and played three more seasons. He finished his NHL career with 524 goals, 901 assists and 1,425 points in 1,279 games. Trottier was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1997. He later was the Rangers head coach during the 2002-03 season, but was fired after 54 games with a 21-26-6-1 record.
