Webb first sub-4 minute scholastic mile
Alan Webb of Reston, Va., became the first American scholastic runner to break four minutes for the indoor mile, with a time of 3:59.86 at the New Balance Games at The Armory in New York. Webb currently holds the American record for the mile at 3:46.91. He proceeded to break Jim Ryun's national high school record on May 27, 2001, when he ran a mile in 3:53.43 to shatter Ryun's 36-year-old time of 3:55.3.
