Riverhead Raceway opens the gates for its 61st season of racing this weekend, but there is a hitch.

Because of a high water table in the track infield, the Figure Eight division will not race on Saturday. All other divisions - NASCAR modifieds (35 laps), a 30-lap, double-point Blunderbust feature event, Late Models, Chargers, Super Pro Trucks and Legends - will race according to the schedule beginning at 5 p.m.

"The infield is our lowest point of our property," track spokesman Bob Finan said in a statement. "Unfortunately the water just keeps seeping up near the intersection of the Figure Eight course."

None of the other races pass through the middle portion of the infield on the quarter-mile track.

Finan said track crews pumped and swept the affected areas during two preseason warm-up days the past two weekends but were unable to solve the problem. When the Figure Eights can return will be evaluated on a "week-to-week basis," according to Finan.

Enduros will take the track Sunday at 12:30 p.m., with the Grand, 4/6 Cylinder Trucks and 4-, 6- and 8- Cylinder divisions all competing.
