Selts, Maehr combine for no-no for Sayville
Marissa Selts and Kathleen Maehr combined to throw a no-hitter and lead Sayville to a 9-0 win over Westhampton in Suffolk League VI. Selts pitched six innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
Bay Shore 6, West Islip 0: Michelle DeVito pitched a shutout, striking out 12 batters and surrendering five hits for Bay Shore in League II.
Sachem East 13, Northport 2: Jessica Caruana went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Marissa Smith pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Sachem East in League II.
Island Trees 3, Plainedge 1: Brittany Ciaramitaro doubled to drive in Shamar Sanchez for the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead Island Trees in Conference A-1. Alannah Basile tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also hit a solo home run in the second.
North Shore 5, Glen Cove 2: Lexi Marshall struck out 15 in seven innings and went 3-for-4 with two triples, an RBI and two runs to lead North Shore in Conference ABC-II.
Cold Spring Harbor 23, Roosevelt 0: Freshman Olivia Taglich pitched a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk for Cold Spring Harbor (1-0) in Conference ABC-V. It was her first varsity win.
BASEBALL
Ward Melville 3, Longwood 2: J.J. Josephs scored from first on a walk-off double by Kyle Brennan to lift Ward Melville in League I. Anthony Kay retired the first 16 hitters, walked one, and struck out nine in a two-hitter for WM.
Lindenhurst 5, West Islip 0: Junior Christian Carpenter pitched a four-hit shutout in his first varsity start to lead Lindenhurst in League II. Vin Valela, Mike Petriello, Ken Skon and Nick Lanzieri all had RBI singles in the first inning.
Northport 7, Central Islip 3: Brandon Fischer hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie at 3 and Tyler Bivona capped the inning with a two-run home run to lead Northport (3-0) in League II.
Connetquot 3, Bay Shore 2: John Fiederlein hit a two-out single with the bases loaded in the sixth to break a tie at 2 and lead Connetquot in League II.
Bayport-Blue Point 5, Shoreham-Wading River 4: Conor Diemer singled home Tim McGrath with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning for Bayport-Blue Point in League VII.
Great Neck North 5, Roslyn 4: Peter LoDuca hit a two-out, three-run double in the top of the seventh inning to give GNN a 5-3 lead in non-league. LoDuca went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs and Shaun Kaiman picked up the win in his first varsity start.
BOYS LACROSSE
Riverhead 5, East Islip 4: Keith Jefferson scored his second goal of the game with 50 seconds left in the first overtime period for Riverhead in Division I. Paul Harron scored with 6:50 remaining in the fourth to tie the score at 4 and erase a three-goal deficit.Half Hollow Hills East 13, Patchogue-Medford 5: Jesse Parker had five goals and two assists and Dan Bockelman had four assists to lead Hills East in Division I.
Farmingdale 9, Oceanside 8: Travis Wall of Farmingdale scored the tying goal on an assist from Chris Lopez with 3:08 remaining and Matt DiCarlo picked up a ground ball and scored the winning goal 10 seconds later to give Farmingdale the win in Conference I. Massapequa 15, East Meadow 6: Brandon Savona had five goals and one assist and senior Ryan Kirby had a career-high six assists to lead Massapequa in Conference A.GIRLS LACROSSE
Sayville 12, Harborfields 10: Connie Nielson scored with 0.5 seconds left in the first overtime on a pass from Olivia Russell to give Sayville the lead in Division II.North Shore 20, Clarke 9: Amanda Johansen had six goals and three assists and Tess Korten had three goals and four assists to lead North Shore in Conference III.Herricks 12, Glen Cove 10: Victoria Morano scored all three of her goals in the second half as Herricks outscored Glen Cove 7-1 in the second half in Conference B-II. Morano tied the score at 10 and then added the team's 12th goal. Kristina Stacom made 14 saves, including four in the last two minutes to preserve the win.
