Miami checking athletes' eligibility
University of Miami officials are looking into the eligibility of 15 football players as part of the investigation into claims that a former booster provided cash, gifts and other improper benefits to Hurricane athletes and recruits over an eight-year period. Miami president Donna Shalala released a video statement Monday. "The Miami athletic compliance staff, in a joint effort with the NCAA, is now beginning the process of reviewing the eligibility of 15 current student-athletes," Shalala said.
Zach Randolph's home searched
Police have searched the Oregon home of Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph in West Linn to investigate the alleged assault of a man selling marijuana. The alleged victim told police that Randolph was not involved in the beating. Police say Randolph was in his suburban Portland home at the time of the beating. Clackamas County Sheriff's Sgt. James Rhodes says evidence from the home backs up the victim's statements.

Tiger may add PGA event
Tiger Woods is thinking about adding another PGA Tour event to his schedule. Woods failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs that start this week, meaning he is ineligible for tour events until October. He said on his website that he might add a tournament in the Fall Series. "Right now, I'm looking at my options," Woods said.
Holmes set for brain surgery
J.B. Holmes withdrew from The Barclays as he prepares to have brain surgery that will force him to miss the rest of the season. Holmes has been diagnosed with structural defects in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance. The surgery is Sept. 1 at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital. -- AP
