Five players scored in double figures as host Philadelphia held off Boston on Friday, 89-86. The 76ers are now just a half game behind the sixth-place Knicks in the Eastern Conference . . . Kris Humphries had 19 points and 20 rebounds, and Brook Lopez and Jordan Farmar each scored 24 as the host Nets held off the L.A. Clippers in overtime, 102-98.

Mahan leads at Doral
Hunter Mahan shot a 1-under 71 to take a one-shot lead at the Cadillac Championship in Doral, Fla., part of the World Golf Championships series. He is 9 under after two rounds, a shot ahead of world No. 1 Martin Kaymer (70) and Francesco Molinari (68). Tiger Woods (74) and Phil Mickelson (71) both are at even par . . . Chris Tidland shot a 9-under 63 for a share of the second-round lead in the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open in Rio Grande. He's tied with James Driscoll (71) and Troy Matteson (67) at 10 under . . . Nick Price matched a Champions Tour record with an 11-under 60 in the first round of the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, Calif. He has a five-shot lead.

Providence fires Davis
Keno Davis, 39, was fired as men's basketball coach at Providence College after just three seasons. The Friars were 46-50, 18-36 Big East with one NIT appearance during his reign.
