against Galaxy
Thierry Henry will miss the Red Bulls' high-profile game against the Los Angeles Galaxy and David Beckham on Friday night because of a sprained right knee. The Red Bulls said Tuesday that Henry had sprained the knee during a Sept. 4 loss at Real Salt Lake. He played with the injury last week and incurred a $2,000 fine for a celebratory kick following teammate Mehdi Ballouchy's goal, a kick that sent the ball into Kevin Hartman and injured the Dallas goalkeeper's knee.
Controversial referee
nabbed on drug rap
A former Ecuadorian referee involved in Italy's controversial elimination from the 2002 World Cup was caught at Kennedy Airport with bags of heroin attached to his body, federal prosecutors said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Byron Moreno late Monday after he arrived in New York on a commercial flight from Ecuador. A judge jailed Moreno without bail on a drug smuggling charge. In 2002, Moreno ejected Francesco Totti, giving the Italian a second yellow card for a dive in the penalty area 13 minutes into overtime of a 2-1 loss to host South Korea.

Madison Square Garden and JPMorgan announced a marketing deal that will make the financial services firm a "Marquee Partner,'' covering a wide range of involvement across the Garden's many properties, from the arena itself to the teams that play there to Radio City Music Hall, Beacon Theatre and more. The deal will give JPMorgan Chase a prominent presence in the massive renovation planned for the Garden between now and 2013. Terms were not disclosed, but Sports Business Journal reported the contract could be worth $30 million per year for 10 years.
