BASEBALLRangers ink Beltre

Adrian Beltre is taking over as the everyday third baseman for the AL champion Rangers, and Michael Young is switching positions. The Rangers introduced Beltre as their new third baseman Wednesday after agreeing on a six-year, $96-million contract with the All-Star. The 34-year-old Young, who has three years and about $48 million left on his contract, will become a designated hitter while playing a utility role.

Harris sparks Vols

Freshman Tobias Harris, who starred for Half Hollow Hills West, had 17 points and 15 rebounds as host Tennessee (10-4) routed No. 21 Memphis, 104-84 . . . Nolan Smith scored a career-high 33 points to help host No. 1 Duke beat Alabama-Birmingham, 85-64.

Dwayne Roloson, who had a shutout in his first start for the Lightning after his trade from the Islanders, was pulled after giving up the first five goals in Tampa Bay's 8-1 loss to the host Penguins. Chris Kunitz had three goals, and Evgeni Malkin got Pittsburgh's first goal seven seconds in.
