Kerr takes 5-shot lead
Cristie Kerr shot a 6-under-par 66 Friday to take a five-stroke lead after the second round of the LPGA Championship, the tour's second major of the season. Kerr had a 10-under 134 total on the Locust Hill Country Club course in Pittsford, N.Y.
Inbee Park, the 2008 U.S. Women's Open champion, and Mika Miyazato were tied for second at 5 under after 70s.
Kerr, the 2007 U.S. Women's Open winner, had a bogey-free round, closing with birdies on four of her last five holes.
Rose shoots 62 at Travelers
Justin Rose shot 8-under 62, with birdies on five consecutive back-nine holes for the second straight day, to take a four-stroke lead over Kevin Sutherland in the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn. Rose broke the tournament record for the first 36 holes at 14-under 126. The 62 was one off the course record at TPC River Highlands.
Levi leads by 1 shot
Wayne Levi shot 7-under 65 to take a one-shot lead over Brad Bryant and Dan Forsman in the Champions Tour's Dick's Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, N.Y. Ken Green, in just his second start in a stroke-play event since an RV crash a year ago resulted in the loss of the lower part of his right leg, had a 78.
WNBA
Liberty beats Tulsa
Leilani Mitchell set career highs with six three-pointers and 20 points, Nicole Powell added 16 points and the visiting Liberty beat the Tulsa Shock, 92-78, to give Anne Donovan the 150th victory of her WNBA coaching career.
Mitchell matched a WNBA record with four three-pointers in the first quarter to help the Liberty (5-7) open a double-digit lead. She added back-to-back threes in the third quarter as the Liberty stretched its lead to 65-40.
Former Olympic track star Marion Jones had career highs with eight points and 15 minutes for the Shock (3-10).
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Purke, TCU beat UCLA
Matt Purke and Tyler Lockwood held UCLA to four hits and Taylor Featherston hit the biggest of TCU's three home runs, leading the Horned Frogs to a 6-2 victory to avoid elimination at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
TCU (54-13) forced a second Bracket 1 title game Saturday, with the winner going to the best-of-three finals beginning Monday against either South Carolina or Clemson.
The unbeaten Purke set a school record with his 16th win of the season, and Lockwood earned his eighth save. - AP
