Every beat Masters champion Adam Scott (76) to earn his first spot in the Masters next month . . . Jeff Maggert became the 17th player in Champions Tour history to win in his debut, shooting a 4-under 68 for a three-round total of 205 at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic at Fallen Oak.

Kyle Busch doubles up at Fontana

Kyle Busch won at Fontana (Calif.) for the second straight year, holding off Kyle Larson, Tony Stewart and his older brother Kurt on a frantic two-lap sprint to the finish. Jimmie Johnson was comfortably in front when he blew a tire with seven laps left.

Red Sox lock up Ortiz

David Ortiz and the Red Sox have agreed to a 2015 contract with options for the following two years, meaning the popular slugger probably will finish his career in Boston . . . Max Scherzer, the 2013 AL Cy Young Award winner, and the Detroit Tigers failed to reach agreement on a long-term contract and will not negotiate again until after the season . . . The Baltimore Orioles' Manny Machado will start the season on the 15-day disabled list because of left knee surgery . . . The Texas Rangers' Jurickson Profar will be out 10 to 12 weeks with a muscle tear in his right shoulder.

Red Bulls still winless after another tie

Dax McCarty's goal in the 21st minute lifted the Red Bulls to a 1-1 tie with the host Chicago Fire. The deadlock, played in 28-degree temperatures, kept each team tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference with 0-1-2 records.

Bucs' Williams stabbed in thigh

Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams was stabbed in the thigh yesterday and received medical treatment at a hospital. His brother is the primary suspect in the stabbing, police said. -- AP
