Report: Colon signs with A's

A person with knowledge of the negotiations says the Oakland Athletics and righthander Bartolo Colon have reached agreement on a one-year deal. Colon's contract is pending a physical, the person said Sunday. Colon, 38, went 8-10 in 29 appearances and 26 starts last season for the Yankees in his 14th big-league season.

Penguins thump Lightning

Evgeni Malkin had three goals and two assists, James Neal added two goals, and the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, 6-3. Matt Gilroy, Ryan Malone and Teddy Purcell scored for the Lightning . . . Dmitry Orlov broke a third-period tie with his first NHL goal, and the Washington Capitals moved into a tie for the Southeast Division lead with a 2-1 win over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.

Prahalis, OSU beat MSU

Samantha Prahalis made a jumper from the left wing, put her right index finger against her lips and quieted Michigan State's crowd. The senior from Commack scored four of her 15 points in less than a minute late in the game, helping 11th-ranked Ohio State (17-1) beat the Spartans, 64-56 . . . In men's basketball, Andre Dawkins scored 24 points and made five three-pointers to help No. 8 Duke (15-2) overcome a sluggish start to beat Clemson, 73-66 . . . Lenzelle Smith Jr. scored 28 points to lead host No. 5 Ohio State (16-3) to an 80-63 victory over seventh-ranked Indiana.

Wagner wins Sony Open

Johnson Wagner played bogey-free in the last 12 holes and won the Sony Open in Honolulu for his third PGA Tour title. Wagner, out of Westchester, closed with a 3-under-par 67 for a two-shot victory. In 2002, Wagner won all three MGA majors, the Met Open, Met Amateur and the Ike.-- AP
