HORSE RACING
Zito is Dialed In
Dialed In, after trailing by 10 lengths, made a late charge and barely beat 60-1 long shot Shackleford to win the Grade I Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., yesterday, covering a mile and an eighth in 1:50.07 to take home $600,000 of the $1-million purse.
Trained by Nick Zito and ridden by Julien Leparoux, Dialed In paid $7.80 to win and has three wins in four career starts. To Honor and Serve was third and 7-5 favorite Soldat was fifth. The Kentucky Derby is May 7.
TENNIS
Djokovic tops Nadal
Novak Djokovic won his fourth consecutive tournament, beating top-ranked Rafael Nadal, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4), in a 31/2-hour final at the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. Djokovic has won 26 consecutive matches since December. Djokovic beat Nadal in the final at Indian Wells two weeks ago and is 8-0 against top-10 opponents this year. He's the first man to win Indian Wells and Key Biscayne back to back since Roger Federer in 2006. Djokovic also won this year at the Australian Open and Dubai.
AUTO RACING
Kevin Harvick overcame an ill-handling car to charge to the front, pass Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the lead with four laps to go and hold on to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Goody's 500 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Earnhardt had taken over the lead with 20 laps to go with a pass of Kyle Busch. Harvick moved up to fifth in the driver standings, 15 points behind Busch, who was third Sunday after leading for 151 laps.
BASKETBALL
Krystkowiak takes over Utes
The University of Utah hired Nets assistant Larry Krystkowiak, 45, as their new basketball coach. Krystkowiak has been an assistant with the Nets the past eight months. It is his fourth head-coaching job. He was fired in 2008 after going 31-69 in one-plus season coaching the Milwaukee Bucks. He went 42-20 with a pair of NCAA Tournament bids in two seasons at Montana and reached the CBA title game in 2004 with the Idaho Stampede.
