Russia head resigns
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee resigned Wednesday in the wake of the nation's worst performance at the Winter Games, news agencies said, citing the committee's spokesman. Leonid Tyagachev took over as head of the Russian Olympic Committee in 2001. In the wake of the Vancouver Games, President Dmitry Medvedev has warned that sports officials would be fired if they failed to resign.

Peyton has surgery
Four-time league MVP Peyton Manning has undergone neck surgery to relieve pain caused by a pinched nerve. The team reported that the injury has caused intermittent pain in Manning's neck for the past four years but never affected his training, practice or playing regimen.

Caddie upset with Tiger
Tiger Woods' caddie said he knew nothing about the golfer's extramarital affairs and was angry with him over the scandal. Steve Williams told TV3's "60 Minutes" program in Wellington, New Zealand, that he is bitter at the reaction toward him. Williams said he would have "blown the whistle" if he had known about the behavior.MLB
Upton, D-Backs agree
Outfielder Justin Upton and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a six-year, $51.25 million contract. The 22-year-old outfielder hit .300 with 26 homers and 86 RBIs.
