AUTO RACINGPatrick eyes Daytona opener

Danica Patrick thinks it would be nice if she got her NASCAR Sprint Cup career started at the Daytona 500. The IndyCar star, who is moving to NASCAR full time next season, will run a limited Cup schedule in a car owned by Tony Stewart next year. She will mostly race at tracks where Stewart expects her to struggle, which makes Daytona even more attractive to her.

"I think it would be a good start," she told The Associated Press in an interview. "It would be nice if the Sprint Cup debut was at a track where I have the opportunity to finish well, especially given the idea that we're going to go to tracks that are going to be challenging and probably ones that I'll do the worst at, but I don't know yet."

Stewart, who was at an appearance with sponsor Office Depot in Richmond, said in a telephone interview that he has looked at having her run the sport's biggest race of the season, but hasn't decided yet if she will. He said he worked with Patrick in a two-car draft during a Nationwide series race at Daytona in July, and said "she ran really, really well all day there." Stewart has said that Patrick will drive in eight to 10 Cup races with an emphasis on learning. The complete schedule for the 2012 season has yet to be released.

BOXINGBrazil officials revisit Gatti death

Brazilian prosecutors said that they are looking again into the death of boxer Arturo Gatti. Brazilian investigators had ruled Gatti's 2009 death a suicide, but a spokesman with the Pernambuco state prosecutor's office told the AP the case is being analyzed again. That comes after private investigators in the U.S. presented evidence challenging whether the Italian-born, Canadian-raised boxer had killed himself.

Spokesman Jaques Cerqueira said prosecutor Paula Ismail may ask for the U.S. investigators' findings, which indicated Gatti was killed. She could bring murder charges or decide to uphold the original investigation's findings that Gatti killed himself. -- AP

HORSE RACINGUncle Mo may race in Kelso

Owner Mike Repole said Uncle Mo, last year's 2-year-old champion, was likely to make his next start Oct. 1 in the mile Kelso Handicap on the main track at Belmont Park. Repole and trainer Todd Pletcher had considered the 1 1/8-mile Pennsylvania Derby Sept. 24 as another option but opted for the Kelso. When asked if he would consider the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile instead of the Classic for Uncle Mo, Repole said in an email, "The Kelso will tell the story, but growing up I dreamed about winning the Classic."
