TENNISNalbandian wins Legg Mason
David Nalbandian arrived in Washington at the Legg Mason Classic ranked 117th after missing about 12 of the previous 15 months because of injuries. He needed a wild-card invitation to get into the field. A week later, he left as the hard-court tournament's champion - and someone to watch at the U.S. Open.
Argentina's Nalbandian became the first player ranked outside the top 100 to win an ATP title in 2010, using his typically strong service returns and effective baseline game to beat No. 25 Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, 6-2, 7-6 (4), Sunday. "If he plays like that," Baghdatis said, "he can beat a lot of guys in the top 10."
NFLCowboys beat Bengals
The Cowboys forced four turnovers, got three field goals from David Buehler and an interception return for a touchdown by Brandon Sharpe in a 16-7 victory over the Bengals in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio.
Colts' Gill arrested
Indianapolis police arrested Colts defensive lineman John Gill for public intoxication after finding him passed out in a ditch on the side of a road about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Javier Hernandez scored on an awkward play in his English debut to help Manchester United beat Chelsea, 3-1, at Wembley in the Community Shield, the English season's traditional opener. The Mexican striker stumbled as he met Antonio Valencia's cross, kicking the ball into his own face before it drifted into the net in the 76th minute.

Front-running Majesticperfection won the $250,000 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap by 2 3/4 lengths at Saratoga. It was the fifth consecutive win for the Steve Asmussen-trained colt and his first in a Grade I. The even-money favorite, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, ran 6 furlongs in a very quick 1:08.63 . . . Bonnie's Poker, the 28-year-old dam of 1997 Kentucky Derby winner Silver Charm, was euthanized in Georgetown, Ky.

Sergio Garcia said he plans to take a two-month break after this week's PGA Championship. He will skip the Ryder Cup and not play again until late October at the Castellon Masters in Spain.
