Kahne first in Phoenix
Kasey Kahne snapped an 81-race losing streak by winning yesterday at Phoenix International Raceway. Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart finished second and third, and Edwards will take a three-point lead over Stewart into next weekend's season finale at Homestead.

Tiger third in Australia
Greg Chalmers won the Australian Open in Sydney, closing with a 3-under-par 69 to hold off a charge by Tiger Woods. Two tee shots led to bogeys for Woods on the back nine, but he made birdie on No. 12, then chipped in from just off the green for eagle on the 14th. Woods missed a 12-foot eagle putt on the 17th. He ended up third, two shots behind Chalmers . . . Scotswoman Catriona Matthew won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico, closing with a 1-under 71 for a four-stroke victory.

Hofstra women roll
Sophomore forward Anma Onyeuku tied her career high with 16 points, shooting 7-for-9, to lead the Hofstra women (1-1) to a 90-69 victory over host Eastern Washington (1-1) . . . D'Aundray Brown had 18 points, eight rebounds and seven steals as Cleveland State upset No. 7 Vanderbilt, 71-58, in Nashville.

Federer wins in Paris
Roger Federer's tough season is ending on a high note with a 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to win his first Paris Masters title.
