MAC head: Syracuse win won't be erased
The head of the Mid-American Conference says there's no way to take away Syracuse's OT win over Toledo despite a blown call on an extra point.
Mid-American commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said yesterday that NCAA rules say there's no route to reverse the outcome once the game is declared over. Toledo athletic director Mike O'Brien asked the Mid-American Conference to call for the Big East to give Toledo the victory after a Big East official admitted that replay officials made a mistake in the Orange's 33-30 victory Saturday.
Texas' Brewster quits because of concussions
Texas junior safety Nolan Brewster is quitting football because of concussions and post-traumatic migraine headaches. Brewster has a history of concussions and migraines dating to high school. He suffered a severe concussions in No. 17 Texas' win over UCLA on Sept. 17. Last season, former Longhorns running back Tre' Newton gave up football because of recurring concussions.

Atlantic 10 tournament to move to Brooklyn
The Atlantic 10 men's basketball tournament will be held at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn starting with the 2012-13 season, a person familiar with the situation said. The Atlantic 10 will hold its last tournament in Atlantic City in 2012 before moving to the new home of the Nets.
The A-10 is home to Fordham, guided by former Hofstra coach Tom Pecora.NBA
Kobe gets $5-million offer from Italian team
The Italian team Virtus Bologna says its top offer to Kobe Bryant is a one-year contract worth $5 million. With NBA players locked out, Virtus hopes the Lakers star agrees to a deal before he arrives in Italy this week for a tour arranged by one of his sponsors.
"An Italian brand well known around the world" is prepared to provide cash for the deal, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press. -- AP
