Evans going to Hall of Fame
Richie Evans, the recognized "king" of modified racing, is one of five being inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Evans, born in New Jersey, raced frequently on Long Island and won 17 races at Islip Speedway, two races at Freeport Stadium and one race at Riverhead Raceway. He was killed in a crash at Martinsville in 1985. Evans captured nine NASCAR modified titles in a 13-year span, including eight in a row from 1978-85. NASCAR also announced Tuesday that drivers Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip had made it, on the third try. They're joined by eight-time series champion crew chief Dale Inman and pioneering driver Glen Wood.
COLLEGESEx-Buckeye Pryor apologizes
Former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor publicly apologized to his former teammates and departed coach Jim Tressel for his role in the mess at the school. "I say sorry to all the Buckeye nation and all the Buckeye fans across the country," Pryor said. "I never meant to hurt anybody directly or indirectly with my conduct off the field."

U.S. team advances in Gold Cup
Jozy Altidore scored in the ninth minute off an assist from Michael Bradley, and the United States hung on to beat Guadeloupe, 1-0, in Kansas City, Kan., to reach the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup. Team USA will face Group B winner Jamaica in the quarterfinals in Washington on Sunday.
Cho new Bobcats GM
The Charlotte Bobcats have hired former Portland general manager Rich Cho for the same job and are promoting Rod Higgins to president of basketball operations.

Frankel wins at Ascot
Frankel stayed unbeaten by holding on in the St. James's Palace Stakes, and three-time Breeders' Cup Mile champion Goldikova lost to Canford Cliffs in the Queen Anne Stakes on opening day at Royal Ascot. American trainer Todd Pletcher's first Ascot runner, Bridgetown, finished 12th in the 5-furlong King's Stand Stakes. -- AP
