League, union discussing going

to 18-game regular season

NFL and union officials have met for the first time since February and discussed adding two games to the regular season. Under the proposal, teams would go from four games in the preseason and 16 in the regular season to two and 18.

Packers president Mark Murphy says it's an "idea that is really gaining momentum, particularly with the owners."

Two prominent players, Ray Lewis and Tom Brady, are concerned that such a change would increase injuries.'Skins want Haynesworth refund

The Washington Redskins are going to try to get back the $21-million bonus they paid to absentee defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, according to an official within the league with knowledge of the deliberations. Unhappy with the Redskins' switch to a 3-4 defense, Haynesworth was a no-show for the team's mandatory minicamp yesterday.

Toomer to run marathon

Former Giants receiver Amani Toomer plans to run the New York Marathon this fall to raise money for charity. Timex will donate $1 to New York Road Runners youth programs for each runner he beats.
