Tressel held until Game 7
The Colts won't use former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel as a replay consultant until the seventh game of the season. Colts vice chairman Bill Polian said Monday that Tressel won't join the team until late October. The team recently announced it would employ Tressel as a game-day consultant to help determine when the team should challenge plays with a video review.
In a statement, Polian said that "questions were raised with respect to the equity of his appointment as opposed to suspensions being served this season by present and former Ohio State players." Tressel was pushed out at Ohio State after an investigation into improper benefits by his players, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Pryor recently was taken by Oakland in the NFL's supplemental draft and faces a five-game suspension in the NFL.
Saints extend Payton
The Saints have given coach Sean Payton a contract extension through 2015. The team reported that Payton has agreed to the deal. Payton took over as coach in 2006 and led the Saints to the NFC South title. Three years later, he guided them to their first conference championship, and they beat Indianapolis in the Super Bowl. Payton has a 53-33 record, including postseason, with New Orleans.

Saratoga leaders repeat
For the second consecutive year, owner Mike Repole, trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey John Velazquez led the standings at Saratoga.
Repole edged fellow Nassau County resident Michael Dubb, 16-15, by taking Sunday's final race. Repole had no entries Monday, when Dubb went 0-for-3. Repole also was the runaway leader with more than $1.4 million in purses. Pletcher won his eighth Spa title with a record 38 wins. Velazquez had 54 winners, 31 for Pletcher. Belmont Park's fall meeting begins Saturday.
