Djokovic to face Nadal again

No. 1 Rafael Nadal and No. 2 Novak Djokovic will continue their rivalry in the Italian Open final Sunday in Rome. Nadal overcame a tough first set against Richard Gasquet Saturday before rolling to a 7-5, 6-1 semifinal victory. Djokovic was pushed to the limit in extending his unbeaten streak to 38 matches, defeating fourth-ranked Andy Murray, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (2).

In the women's final, Maria Sharapova will meet Sam Stosur. Sharapova outslugged top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki, 7-5, 6-3, and Stosur downed fourth-seeded Li Na, 7-6 (6), 6-0.

Manchester United wins 19th league title

Wayne Rooney secured Manchester United's record 19th English title, scoring on a penalty kick to salvage a 1-1 draw at Blackburn. Rooney drove home the spot kick in the 73rd minute, ensuring that United overhauled Liverpool as the most successful team in English league history . . . Manchester City ended its 35-year trophy drought, winning the FA Cup on Yaya Toure's second-half goal in a 1-0 victory over Stoke.

Alternation takes Peter Pan Stakes

Alternation could be headed to the Belmont Stakes after rallying to win the $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes for 3-year-olds at Belmont Park. The Peter Pan is the traditional prep for the Belmont on June 11. Alternation, a Triple Crown nominee, raced the 11/8 miles in 1:49.53 and paid $9.40 to win.

Blum wins Havemeyer Invitational.

Michael Blum of Engineers Country Club defeated Michael Reardon of the Tuxedo Club, 3 and 2, to win the 61st Havemeyer Invitational Tournament at Southward Ho Country Club in Bay Shore.
