Rooney's superb strike wins it for ManU
Wayne Rooney called it the best goal he's scored, while Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson claimed it was the greatest strike he's seen in 25 years at Old Trafford. Rooney used a spectacular bicycle kick with his back to the goal for the 2-1 win over rival Manchester City yesterday. The United striker leaped to meet a right-wing cross with an overhead strike that flew into the top corner after 77 minutes.

Andrei Loktionov scored the tiebreaking goal at 3:36 of the third period as the Los Angeles Kings beat the punchless Washington Capitals 4-1 to extend their point streak to eight games.

Haynesworth charged in road rage
Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been formally charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from a road rage encounter. Fairfax County police say the 29-year-old Haynesworth and his attorney appeared at a police station where Haynesworth signed a summons warrant charging him with assault.

Clijsters reaches final in Paris
Kim Clijsters will face Petra Kvitova in the final of the Open Gaz de France in Paris. Clijsters defeated Kaia Kanepi 6-1, 7-5. Kvitova cruised past Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States 6-2, 6-0 in the other semifinal. - AP
