GOLFHuh? Rookie beats Allenby in 8-hole playoff

John Huh parred the eighth hole of a playoff to beat Robert Allenby and win the Mayakoba Golf Classic Sunday at Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Making his fifth PGA Tour start, Huh parred all eight holes in the playoff that matched the second-longest in PGA Tour history. Allenby had a two-stroke lead, but double bogeyed the 18th to send it to extra holes.

Twins reliever Zumaya has torn elbow ligament

Minnesota Twins reliever Joel Zumaya was diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right elbow Sunday, meaning his latest comeback bid has ended almost before it began. Zumaya lasted just 13 pitches in his first session of live batting practice Saturday before walking off the mound with pain in his elbow . . . Chris Perez couldn't even finish his first bullpen session without trouble. Cleveland's All-Star closer will miss as much as six weeks with a strained left side muscle he injured throwing off the mound.

St. Louis hat trick sinks Devils

Martin St. Louis scored three goals and set up another to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-3 victory over the host Devils. Alexei Ponikarovsky, Petr Sykora and Zach Parise scored for the Devils, who dropped their second straight . . . Evgeni Malkin scored his 37th goal of the season, Brad Thiessen made 21 saves in his NHL debut and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-2.

Union Rags romps in Fountain of Youth

Union Rags solidified his status as the early favorite for the 138th Kentucky Derby by romping to a four-length victory over News Pending in the $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Algorithms, the morning-line favorite, was scratched after popping a splint in his right foreleg.

Pete Weber won a record fifth U.S. Open bowling championship in North Brunswick, N.J., throwing a strike on his final ball to beat Mike Fagan, 215-214. Weber surpassed his father, Dick Weber. -- AP
