TENNIS
Federer gets 800th win
Roger Federer earned his 800th career victory Friday, beating Juan Monaco, 6-3, 7-5, to reach the semifinals of the Paris Masters. Federer will next play Tomas Berdych, who edged Andy Murray, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Top-ranked Novak Djokovic pulled out ahead of his quarterfinal against 2008 champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, saying a nagging shoulder injury got worse after his third-round win. Tsonga will next face John Isner, who defeated David Ferrer, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Inkster, 51, tied for lead
Hall of Famer Juli Inkster shot 3-under-par 69 for a share of the second-round lead with Anna Nordqvist in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico. Inkster, 51, could become the oldest winner in LPGA Tour history.
COLLEGE HOOPSHofstra women lose
Host Gonzaga topped Hofstra's women, 101-88, in the season opener. Sophomore Kate Loper hit five three-pointers and had 18 points. Freshman guard Andreana Thomas also had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Pride. Shante Evans chipped in 13 points and five rebounds.
SBU women fall
Stony Brook's women failed to find their shooting touch in a 42-34 season-opening, non-conference loss at Fairfield. Senior forward Whitney Davis had 12 points and nine rebounds and was the only Seawolves player to score in double figures. SBU shot just 25 percent from the field.
SOCCER
U.S. falls to France
The United States dropped to 1-4-1 under coach Jurgen Klinsmann, losing to host France, 1-0, in an exhibition game as Loic Remy outmuscled defender Clarence Goodson to score in the 72nd minute.-- AP
