NFLTitans name Munchak coach

The Tennessee Titans hired Mike Munchak as their coach Monday, promoting him from within to replace Jeff Fisher.

This will be the first head coaching job for Munchak, who turns 51 in March, with the only franchise the offensive line coach and Hall of Fame lineman has ever played or worked for since being selected eighth overall by the then-Houston Oilers in 1982.

Among those interviewed for the position was Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.

GOLFWilson wins Phoenix Open

Mark Wilson holed a 9-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff with Jason Dufner to win the frost-delayed Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Ariz. It is his second victory in three starts this year. Wilsonshot a 2-under 69 to match Dufner at 18 under. Dufner shot a 66, birdieing Nos. 16 and 17.

COLLEGE HOOPSOkla. State's Williams charged

Oklahoma State suspended starting forward Darrell Williams after he was charged with four felony counts alleging he inappropriately touched two women without their consent. Williams, 21, was charged with one count of sexual battery and three counts of rape by instrumentation.

Williams scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds in the Cowboys' 81-75 win against Oklahoma on Saturday.

Player suspended for tweeting

Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury said guard Ravern Johnson has been suspended indefinitely because of "inappropriate tweets'' that were critical of his role with the team and of fans after the Bulldogs' 75-61 loss to Alabama on Wednesday. Johnson, a senior, is averaging 17.7 points.

Pitt tops W. Virginia

Nasir Robinson scored 15 points and No. 4 Pittsburgh (22-1, 10-1 Big East) overcame a poor start to beat host No. 25 West Virginia, 71-66.

BASEBALLBrosius to manage national team

Scott Brosius, who hit .471 and was named MVP when the Yankees won the 1998 World Series, was named manager of the United States' under-18 team by USA Baseball. Brosius coaches Linfield College in Oregon.

NHLSavard out for season

Bruins center Marc Savard will miss the rest of the season after he was placed on long-term injured reserve with his second concussion in less than a year. - AP
