Stripped of gold for doping

Just hours after the close of the Olympics, a female shot putter from Belarus was stripped of her gold medal Monday in the first case of an athlete losing a medal for doping at the London Games.

With the disqualification of Nadzeya Ostapchuk, the gold medal was awarded to Valerie Adams of New Zealand -- who wound up as Olympic champion for the second time in a row.

The International Olympic Committee said Ostapchuk, a former world champ, tested positive for steroids both before and after winning the shot put last week for her first Olympic gold.

Louisiana State Police investigators have found no evidence that the Saints or general manager Mickey Loomis rigged Superdome wiring so opposing coaches' radio communications could be intercepted.

Cowboys edge Raiders

Darren McFadden picked up where he left off before a foot injury cut last season short by gaining 38 yards on Oakland's first three plays of the preseason. Dan Bailey's 33-yard field goal on the opening drive of the second half provided the only scoring in the Cowboys' 3-0 victory.

Players to present proposal

The NHL's players association Tuesday will present an "alternative view" of how the NHL should move forward in negotiations on a collective-bargaining agreement, one that is expected to include a luxury tax and extensive revenue sharing.

"Some people interpret a counterproposal to be 'this is within the framework of what the other guy said.' It just moves some things around," union executive director Donald Fehr said in Toronto. "This is a different kind of an approach. It's how the players see the world."
