Daley wins Senior Players

Joe Daley won the Senior Players Championship Sunday for his first Champions Tour title, closing with a 2-under-par 68 for a two-stroke win over Tom Lehman.

The 51-year-old Daley, winless in his brief PGA Tour career, had a 14-under 266 total at Fox Chapel in Pittsburgh.

Daley capped the win with a 15-foot putt on the final hole for his tournament-high 24th birdie.

Donaldson wins Irish Open

Jamie Donaldson of Wales won his first European Tour title with a 6-under 66 to clinch a four-stroke win at the Irish Open. He topped a strong field that included home favorites Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington as he ended an 11-year trophy drought that covered 255 tournaments.

Miyazato wins LPGA event

Ai Miyazato shot 6-under 65 to overcome a five-shot deficit and win the NW Arkansas Championship for her second LPGA Tour win of the year.

U.S. reaches World Cup final

Amanda Chidester hit a grand slam and Chelsea Thomas allowed two hits in a five-inning shutout as the United States beat Brazil, 9-0, in Oklahoma City. The U.S. faces Australia in Sunday's title game.

Prahalis nets 20 in loss

Samantha Prahalis, who starred at Commack High on Long Island, scored 20 points for the Mercury in a 90-77 loss against the host Mystics. -- APMEDIA

Andrews: ESPN to Fox

Fox has hired Erin Andrews to host the 30-minute pregame show for its new prime-time college football package, as well as contribute to the network's NFL and MLB coverage. She had been with ESPN since 2004; her contract with that network expired Saturday, one day after ESPN announced it had made a failed bid to retain her. Fox's first game is scheduled for Sept. 1, when Hawaii visits Southern Cal.
