Nigerian police free kidnapped player

Police in Lagos, Nigeria, say they have freed Christian Obodo, a midfielder for Italy's Udinese football club who was kidnapped in the country's oil-rich delta. Delta state police spokesman Charles Muka said that officers found the athlete in the state unharmed Sunday night and arrested several suspected kidnappers They abducted Obodo on Saturday in Warri, a major city in Nigeria's Niger Delta, police said; the gunmen attacked Obodo as he approached a church for a Saturday service. They later asked for a $187,500 ransom for his release.

Fury defeats FC Indiana

Merritt Mathias scored to give the Fury (4-1-1) a 1-0 win over FC Indiana in South Bend, Ind., Sunday. Mathias finished a breakaway by Tina DiMartino for the Fury's only goal in the 21st minute. The Fury dominated winless Indiana, outshooting it 18-1 and hitting the crossbar three times. "We dominated possession, but still could not put the game away," Fury coach Paul Riley said.

Hamilton takes Canadian GP

Lewis Hamilton has won the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. He is the seventh different winner in the first seven races of the season -- an unprecedented display of parity on the Formula One circuit. Romain Grosjean was second to the McLaren Mercedes and Sergio Perez was third, followed by Sebastian Vettel.

Lehman wins Regions Tradition again

Tom Lehman won his second straight Regions Tradition, finishing the Champions Tour major at Birmingham, Ala., with a 4-under-par 68 to take a two-stroke victory. Lehman overcame a near-constant drizzle and occasional heavy rain for his sixth Champions Tour victory. Bernhard Langer and Chien Soon Lu each finished with a 66 to share second behind Lehman's 14-under 274.

Feng first Chinese player to win title

Shanshan Feng won the LPGA Championship in Pittsford, N.Y., to become the first Chinese player to win an LPGA Tour title and a major event, closing with a 5-under 67 for a two-stroke victory. Feng finished at 6-under 282. Stacy Lewis shot 70 to tie for second with Mika Miyazato, Suzann Pettersen and third-round leader Eun-Hee Ji. -- AP
