Power wins Edmonton Indy

Will Power drove to victory at the Edmonton Indy, taking a bite out of the points lead of reigning series champ Dario Franchitti, who finished in third place. SWIMMING

Americans strong at worlds

Americans Dana Vollmer and Caitlin Leverenz were the fastest qualifiers in their events at the world championships in Shanghai, with swimmers yet to produce a world record since high-tech suits were banned 1 1/2 years ago. Vollmer's time of 56.97 seconds was the fastest qualifying time in the 100-meter butterfly.

Leverenz's 2:11.01 in the 200 individual medley was tops. Two years ago in Rome, 43 world records were set during the height of the high-tech suit frenzy, but there have been no long-course marks lowered since textile suits were reinstated in January 2010.
